Thread: Issues with apt-get

i installed fresh version of ubuntu server onto old laptop found (10.04.2 i386).

i'm trying use apt-get install , can't find package. i've run problem other installs figured had due add in repositories /etc/apt/sources.list

run apt-get update , errors. error got before edited sources.list

e: index files failed download, have been ignored, or old ones used instead.


tried editing sources.file, restarting computer, , reinstalling server os , still same thing. know it's connected internet because "wget google.com" works fine.

ideas?


in advance

i have had occasion similar symptoms. issue due no reference "network" when setting static ip in /etc/network/interfaces file.
