hi,
after old video card died (i believe nvidia too) new 1 (nvidia) placed days ago.
@ first, things seemed work 'out of box' after time screen started distorted (colorful lines crossing parts of screen). checked out hardware drivers (using option under 'administration') , found message saying nvidia driver installed not 'enabled'. option shown option remove it. chose in hopes that, after restart, able reinstall (and enable) it.
no such luck however... during startup, after showing bios texts , intel logo , while showing brownish ubuntu background (but before playing sounds or showing logo's, login screens, etc) screen goes black. system seems responsive (i can restart using ctrl-alt-del) there's (obviously) no way can use it.
hope can solved without reinstalling system. have looked around on , other forums haven't been able find similar cases or solutions. able give advise?
update: found long thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1743535) may related.
