how to transform a shape?

hello:

 

let's draw rectangle , want change shape. how go doing that?

 

i found information in faq's didn't me.

 

i have selected direct selection tool , clicked on outlines of shape (the path?) , brings 4 squares on each corner (handles?) , when click , drag able pull line/path out, up, down etc.

 

however, able move lines in curve. looking bring line round handles ~ when pen tool used.

 

i did once mistake can't figure out did. thought maybe had used ctrl + click on shape or path doesn't seem it.

 

i tried going pen tool manipulate path way want either added or took away handle ~ okay , great , not trying accomplish.

 

so, if kindly remind me of how go bringing line    o---------------little square---------------o on shape happy build monument in times square , travel there weekly worship @ feet ; )

hold down on pen tool icon in tool,bar , see convert point tool. tool use create curves corner points. drag on selected point , create new handles. can repeat process many times wish if needed. clicking once on point make corner point again.

 

short cut time on windows computer -  you can hit p key select pen tool. while have pen tool selected, can use modifier keys.

 

shift key - removes points

ctrl key - direct selection tool

alt key - convert points tool
