Thread: Best practices for file permissions (var/www)

hello there everyone,

i'm pretty new linux scene i'm in love kubuntu.
i've still got learning curve go before i'll happy , have 1 or 2 questions file/folder permissions.

there lots of tutorials , opinions on file permissions , web hosting.
lets wanted allow write permissions /var/www folder.

best practice?

chown -r user... allow specific user have write capabailities.

use gksudo nautilus (unsure does)

or open folder parties.

if has opinions on file permissions in general or web hosting security feel free throw them @ me.

thanks.

imho, keep permissions /var/www writable root only, readable else, unless specific program (ie mediawiki, phpbb) requires else config files , like.
