hi there,
i'd grateful anyone's thoughts on problem, kept me awake last night!
pc running 11.04 showing blank screen after every 10 mins while watching bbc iplayer (with screensaver , power saver settings switched on 1 hour). picture returned when moved mouse still annoying.
googled solution , found page http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=858658. based on this, did following in terminal:
"sudo gedit /etc/x11/xorg.conf"
when text editor came up, deleted 'endsection' xorg.conf file, , added following lines:
section "serverflags"
option "blank time" "0"
option "standby time" "0"
option "suspend time" "0"
option "off time" "0"
endsection
problem: upon rebooting computer, got purple screen ubuntu logo, went no further. tried booting livecd , removing lines added, wouldn't let me save file. tried booting recovery mode i'm not adept @ command line navigation stuff, don't know how find or re-edit file.
can help? i'd grateful.
thanks, chris
did backup xorg.conf before editing it????? rule of thumb. that, discovered, important file can screw things.
if backed up, going easy. if not ...
when boot terminal repeat did in first place. try:
... xorg.conf file again.code:sudo gedit /etc/x11/xorg.conf
* i'm suprised site looking on didn't give instructions xorg.conf file before changing it. do.
