Thread: xrandr - how to set default monitor?


i have laptop , external monitor. external monitor phisically right of laptop on desk. external monitor default monitor. grandr , arandr (xrandr gui) not help.

vga1 - external monitor, lvds1 - laptop monitor.
xrandr --output vga1 --mode 1280x1024 --pos 1280x0
xrandr --output lvds1 --mode 1280x1024 --pos 0x0

these commands set external monitor right 1280 pixels. assume monitor positioned @ 0x0 main monitor. how set vga1 default or how position lvds1 left minus 1280 pxs?

i'm unsure how technology has come along since beginning of 2010, trying impossible task. laptops, @ least had been told, won't let default different monitor outside of it's own monitor that's attached it, , override attemp @ doing so.

no other reason that's way is, or sort of fool-proofing, in can't change default monitor 1 day, forget, , grab laptop , go somewhere realize (when it's far late) default monitor @ home.
