i have 2 computers running linux. 1 10.04 , 1 9.04. 10.04 works fine (after messing it) cannot use xdmcp it.
9.04 works on older machine , runs great thru xdmcp (which use time remote access it).
9.04 no longer supported , run web server , sftp server on it. want keep using xdmcp , not want upgrade. have security issues or other compatibility issues if don't upgrade?
you won't have newest software. might accidentally downloading windows viruses if don't have newest version of browser (and other networking software), there security risk, although you'd have run viruses in wine them damage system
