Thread: Unexpected lockup - Dell XPS M1730, 10.04 LTS

i have dell xps m1730 lapkiller (it can laptop if have strong , fireproof legs.)

i'm running ubuntu 10.04 lts , system up-to-date. occasionally, after has been sitting while , in screensaver mode, i'll move mouse or work touchpad, , screen remains blank. power still on , wifi light still blinking, won't come back. option has been power down , up.

may thermal issue cpu. (i folding@home on , have been doing several years.) but, think thermal issue might shut down instead of lock up. also, vacuumed out pretty good, didn't take apart. but, lockups keep happening, every couple or 3 weeks. but, has happened 3 times in last few days.

anyway, i'm curious place problem is? log file? , for, since doesn't shutdown or reboot.

maybe need go ahead , dismantle thing , clean out more thoroughly. typing on laptop , quite warm... , not folding. maybe thermal issue -would- lock instead of shut down. ??

if you've had similar lockup issues, i'd appreciate input.
