Thread: CD/DVD not displayed in "Places"

this has worked before today noticed when put cd or dvd doesn't show in places menu. not matter if data or media dvd/cd. if put playable dvd in drive can play vlc, have no way of displaying or navigating through contents of drive.


recent changes have made system besides getting latest 2.6.32-32 upgrade other day have installed virtualbox.

ideas, missing simple?

"disk" directory? ".hal-mtab-lock" suppose there?

noticed after put in usb stick make bootable stick data disk in dvd drive showed possible choice make boot-able stick. (it isn't os image)


2nd edit:
if use command "eject" terminal afterwards "disk" in directory listing gone.
when put disc in tray , close drive appears second disappears , problem above.

3rd edit:
i renamed ".hal-mtab-lock" in case giving me problem , rebooted. not sure if working deleting "disk" directory, renaming file, , rebooting seems have made things "happier." dvd gives me trouble made stand alone dvr/dvd burner hooked tv. think dvr/dvd must have given volume name "disk". there odd going on dvr/dvd encoding or file structure isn't standard.
hoping short video off dvd , have in mpeg format. not sure if "solved" test few more days before marking "solved"
still interested in suggestions.
