in preferences | dictionary, have told indd use custom dictionary have set , have dragged top of list. other dictionary available standard 1 comes indesign, me unforunately named "user dictionary".

some ?s:

1) in above image when indicates "use settings in user dictionary?" indesign referring dictionary comes product, or referring whatever dictionary have set in preferences? hope latter.

2) can give few examples of "hyphenation exceptions" be? imagine if have selected particular word @ end of line indd has hyphenated , in character palette assigned "no break" exception.

3) indd if choose "yes"; , if choose "no"?
hopefully if choose "no" indd retain manual overrides exist in file e.g. "no break", continue use hyphenation rules/preferences in ever dictionary has been selected there.

4) in testing above, not see indesign gives anyway see might have changed hyphenation if choose "yes" option. there way see has changed?

2) can give few examples of "hyphenation exceptions" be? imagine if have selected particular word @ end of line indd has hyphenated , in character palette assigned "no break" exception.

if don't way id hyphenates word can add word a  dictionary. in example below i've added custom dictionary in prefs added word hyphenation dictionary via edit>spelling>user dictionary. clicking hyphenate button can override default hyphenation word:

by default id break hyphenation @ hy-

but if remove first hyphen , add word  dictionary, hyphenation no longer break @ hy- still break @ hyphen-:

the character>no break feature prevents word breaking @ , doesn't care dictionary or prefs are:
