graphics

i'm gonna blow through fast..and cause i'm old guy of older people dealt print , graphics in past..but here's whats graphics now....for boat charts , topo maps etc.. think huge print files @ 300 dpi... make nice big "charts " or " maps ".

noaa , usgs ( beer thirty if miss right letters bear me )... going digital.

no more nice paper maps topo maps ( 7.5 deg ) etc... not enough money in govt no more. free pdf files ( or tif files ).  no wonder adobe crazy going pdf stuff...

anyway, aero , boat stuff...and topo stuff... in past it's been "paper".. , going digital.  cause needs have nice paper map huge , clear read, in " field "...where work etc... going little digital screens ( 72 dpi ? ).... etc....

i angry there aren't more new topo maps available ...but luckily people captain airplanes , boats insist on real paper maps far.  when goes, out below !

what did....for own " map " of minnetonka lake ( topo map dont exist no more , pdf file ) this....follow along... , can graphics own movies etc... think of potential !

anyway, when done whole process can product use @ 72 dpi film editing....

get pdf file usgs , open in adobe pdf viewer thing...( wont open in psd ) ... , blow 400 %...then screen shots , save files ( converted tif files use in quark xpress ). have captured sections want make map ( or graphic of ) ..you go quark...and make biggest page can...( 46" x 46 " ) , import images , using quark picture boxes jigsaw puzzle thing , put map on page...

then save eps

then open in photoshop , rasterize @ 300 dpi ( printing, rather screen )

then flatten , save eps tif... , thing...re: levels, sharpen, etc....whatever )

then have product can manipulate ...like make 72dpi , save film editor, or make suitable print on paper , color separations offset press ....or whatever ...

but used done copy cameras real print job ( paper charts ) ...that govt used provide....and gone !  screw !

oh well...most people use topo maps go camping these days...so guess dont matter.
