Thread: Setting wireless default to off?

i imagine there's way can - i've had netbook week use mobile broadband if i'm online @ it. if possible, rather wireless being on when start set off till turn on when near wireless facilities. how this?

packard bell dot s 410 atom n 450 cpu running ubuntu 10.04 32 bit.

thanks.

some notebooks have hardware wireless switch, push it, , wireless of until it's pushed again. however, notebooks have sofware or keyboard combo, , if that's case, think way edit config file prevent module loading on startup, or, alternatively, bring wireless interface down on startup.

example, if wireless interface wlan0, add following line /etc/rc.local:
code:
ifconfig wlan0 down
run 'ifconfig' see networking interfaces.
