Updating Joomla for a new laptop - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i have website set through joomla have since purchased new laptop, joomla not loaded. guess update joomla software on new laptop? unfortunately, don't know version of joomla set on website when did it, loaded late 2009, 2010. help, please?

i suppose want upgrade existing website running in joomla, can check version control panel unable understand why have not upgraded website in these 2 - 3 years?
if want set anew can download latest stable version of 2.5.6 , install in wamp/mamp.
if missing please correct me.
