Thread: uninstall ubuntu then reinstall it problem

here problem.
daughter's partner has leant me toshiba equium laptop going. has ubuntu 9.10 on , has not used while. gives option upgrade 10.04lts on update manager needs administrative password, which has forgotten, running. have cd of 10.04lts when try run it, demands administrative password.
far have searched how change password , tried several suggestions through recovery mode , have attempted change password thought each time had done. have not managed it. in fact have found other passwords thought , changed same... no idea now...it not work me. think best option start again.

know laptop had windows xp on got rid of during partition process @ beginning of ubuntu installation assume has ubuntu on it.

question how rid of ubuntu 9.10 on , install 10.04 lts cd can make sure clean, new intall simple passwords.

have been using ubuntu while , can simple stuff struggle 1 , threads have searched come angle windows on there well, language/jargon used makes complicated.
