greetings,
i completed (i think) first install of joomla 2.5 on local ubuntu 10.04 apache server , while browsing administrator section of site notice directory permissions being reported being "unwritable" in red - suspect not good.
the files install zip file copied server directory using sudo , have owner:group set root. file permissions appear correct me 755 directories , 644 files. think issue related owner , group settings on files. unable find mention of should be. server not accessible on internet, available on lan , used development, testing, , learning.
if matters, during installation of joomla did not configure ftp in install step - appeared optional , setting changed later.
what joomla expect owner , group settings on files set as?
should linux user "root" own these files?
should linux group "www-data" own these, or have access?
thanks - if additional information needed ask.
