i need transcode videos , have tried variety of programs, including winff, arista , handbrake. every time transcode longer 4 or 5 minutes, machine locks up.
not matter file type is, recompress or on of drives read from/write to.
last 2 times tried converting , machine locked, noticed odd: lockup took out lan switch, knocking other machines offline. not online until restarted locked machine. took out switch, not cable modem further upline.
how converting video in way affect network?
running 11.04 64 bit on dual athlon box, 8g ram, nvidia card. 2.6.38-8 kernel, gnome 2.32.1.
have had problem last couple of ubuntu releases never noticed network issue until recently. have been happening before network configuration new.
