Importing from Illustrator to After Effects

i'm having trouble importing illustrator file in after effects. illustrator project has 7 layers. in after effects import file selecting import > file name > import composition retaining layer sizes.

 

in timeline there's 7 illustrator layers, however, of things on other layers seem have moved top layer that's layer controls anything; opacity, position etc.

 

does know what's up?

your description sounds didn't create individual layers in illustrator.  need that. 

 

you have layer 1 in illustrator document.  need create layers 2-7, move appropriate things each layer, , it's rename each layer makes sense.  hard-core illustrator artists blow off right away.  in case of human body, right eye, aleft eye, head, torso, right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg.  double-click on current layer name , re-name away.
