Import error message

i getting error message: not complete request because photoshop elements not recognize type of file"  when attempt re-import edited (in elements) jpgs elements editor. have re-named these files outside of elements organizer had no problem importing them. there 11 jpgs , when try re-edit them in editor 5 of them not open , message. jpgs.....so bit confused of why editor cannot read them. please help. thanks

sometimes jpg metadata gets corrupted enough pse chokes on file, though other apps can open it.  open files in program, such xnview , save program.  re-write metadata correctly.
