Thread: Preventing Login

i have here small peer-peer network total sharing, , being user besides better half, no interest whatever in local security. not use wireless not issue.

thje win xp machines have of services disabled, , few buggers in have devil of time reaching out.

there 1 main linux machine, , basis of inquiry. boots meerkat, can boot win , fedora.

linux machine, through samba on gnome-commander has full access other win machines.
not have access it, , plan on keeping way.

have yanked ssh, nfs, , resembling remote desktop functions init.d (though can enable them if needed). telnet , ports blocked @ router. hosts.deny set all:all.
behind hardware firewall.

object of inquiry here how ensure nothing ever gets login prompt machine, after bootup. aside rrom, local tty's . in other words, dont want anything, local or internet able access machine. total access keyboard.

there faq type of security?
dont want waste time or cpu cycles trying verify users @ keyboard. if @ keyboard want total access minimum fuss.

far internet goes want ensure nothing ever downloads executable permissions, or executes without explicit permissions - no automatic updates permitted here.

there utility allow processes internet access, on case-by-case basis comodo in win? , allow - no, temporary, full access priviledges?

there local port scanners, can make recommendations?
