Photoshop & Illustrator: same print size, same DPI, but different size on screen?

lately i've been started working on illustrator, since i've loved vector pen tool in photoshop, i've notice something...

let's want work on a4 page. start new print document, , set a4 size @ 300 dpi. if on photoshop, i'll huge white page @ 100% goes way out screen, if start document same size in illustrator, page that's smaller screen (at 100%).

i guess it's normal because programs might work in different ways, i'm concerned because way, in illustrator 1pt size brush bigger in photoshop...

have ever noticed? doing wrong? affect in way?

any feedback appreciated, thanks!

...if on photoshop, i'll huge white page @ 100% goes way out screen...

because photoshop raster imaging program. deals pixels. it's rulers count pixels. 100% on photoshop's rulers means 1:1 ratio. that's 1 image pixel each monitor pixel. @ 100% or greater in photoshop, not looking @ interpolated pixels (i.e.; pixels downsampled display on monitor).

in photoshop, set rulers inches. create new file measuring 1" x 1" @ 72 ppi. create new file measuring 1" x 1" @ 300 ppi. tile windows, zoom both 100% , you'll see "an inch @ 100%" in first smaller "an inch @ 100%" in other. that's because in both cases photoshop showing all of pixels contained in inch @ 100%.

in other words, photoshop individual pixels of single raster image file flattened to. rulers image pixels. (in fact, photoshop's rulers used more correctly display "1:1" displays "100%". (another example of things being changed @ repeated requests of users don't know what's them.)

... if start document same size in illustrator, page that's smaller screen (at 100%)...

because illustrator vector drawing/design program. deals objects, not pixels. rulers measure real-world measure. 100% on illustrator's rulers means 100% of size of artwork when printed, based on illustrator's assumption 1 monitor pixel represents 1 point (i.e.; 1/72 inch) of real-world measure.

in other words, illustrator individual, free-floating objects. of objects vector paths. of them raster images. unlike in photoshop, each of raster images can independently scaled different ppi. makes no sense whatsoever think of illustrator's rulers counting pixels.

do not expect illustrator act photoshop. you'll confuse yourself. 2 different kinds of programs corresponding 2 primary (and different) kinds of computer graphics: raster images , vector paths.

when trying understand programs photoshop , programs illustrator, understanding in differences, not similarities.
