Thread: Ubuntu server on Amazon's EC2 -- security issues?

hey folks:

need set website business , host confidential data staff/management accessing various geographical locations (ie: not within lan). plan lock down site as possible using ssl , require passwords yadda yadda yadda.

security perspective, there differences between doing of above on own purchased server physically sits in office versus purchasing amazon ec2 machine instance , doing in cloud? in different thread mentioned issue ec2 lack of encryption on data. however, can't issue own server and, solve issue both scenarios (ec2 , own server) need encrypt data on hard drives?

else factor make ec2 route inherently less secure in comparison having own box?

thoughts?

rule #1 of technology security:

physical access = root access. period.

server in office, can count on 1 hand how many folks have access box. on ec2 instance, have thousands of amazon employees, , manages hack management systems.
