i've installed xubuntu on old desktop son - works ok can't sound out of - must have missed something?
when starts screen looks attached pic - might causing , how fix it?
on note, can suggest usb wireless adapter works straight box ubuntu - or @ least minimum messing around?
i'm not sure solutions translate situation, here are.
sound: have 2 sound cards , not sound when selected preferred card in xubuntu mixer preferences. problem xubuntu mixer doesn't provide option turn-off other sound device. installed gnome-media package includes gnome mixer , makes available second dropdown menu turn-off second sound device. doing made sound begin working immediately, adds second volume icon on xfce panel. small price pay functioning sound.
don't know usb wireless adapters, can point inexpensive pci wireless card works me no problems or required configuration here.
scrambled screen might because need activate proprietary driver video card. go system menu > additional drivers , see if there recommended driver available graphics card. if so, activate , reboot.
