Thread: samba4 vs smb

ok know there couple of samba threads out there did not find specific issue

have ubuntu server , tried
code:
apt-get install samba
ubuntu kindly told me should install samba4, , did

now, first issue is, smb.conf file being delivered samba4 (or there? did not choose install samba when installed server @ rate) wrong

contains parameters samba not recognize while starting

kicked , installed samba (3.x presume) - 1 has "smbd" name , not "samba" - worked out of box expected - almost

shares worked fine problem had is, apparently not stop thing?!

code:
smbd stop
executed without error - smbd kept running in process list, shares added/removed/changed rights/etc updated @ arbitrary times (instead of after calling "smdb restart") ye... kinda sucks

questions are

- samba 4 ready use , can't seem find concrete on how use it?
- idea why can't stop smbd running?

open synaptic , @ description samba4:
these packages contain snapshot versions of samba 4, next-generation version of samba. these should considered _experimental_, , should not used in production.
don't know why told install it. don't know why it's in repository.

far stopping samba why need stop it? usual way :
code:
sudo service smbd stop
although "sudo stop smbd" should work.
