Thread: Brother MFC6490cw cant print

i have been attempting brother printer read on ubuntu maverick 64bit system nothing failure.
have downloaded of appropriate packages , @ point getting following msg

i don't know if matters didn't include force-architecture when installed printer on notebook i'm typing on right now. downloaded 2 printer .deb packages followed instructions here: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...tion_prn3.html. cheated; open terminal window , copy/paste. made sure remove parentheses when pasted file names. first lpr cups. didn't step 5 or past it. may required in earlier ubuntu or other debian based distros. not seem necessary in recent ubuntu releases. printer install pretty smooth. scanner install usb cable required research. don't have access note made had insert couple lines sane file somewhere scanner recognized. installing scanner wireless network connection better documented usb connection seems faster.

edit: here notes when installed usb scanner:
install mfc-6490cw usb scanner, following lines must inserted in /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules:

# brother scanners
attrs{idvendor}==04f9, env{libsane_matched}="yes"

applies users, including superusers.
