Thread: Daemon not starting up automatically

hi,

i'm "quasi-noob" has used ubuntu develop programs on last few years without messing around os.

i've been trying mpd (music player daemon) run on ubuntu 10.04 box , have set way 1 problem: doesn't start automatically when boot up.

mpd starts if manually type in "sudo /etc/init.d/mpd start" , stays running once start it.

limited linux knowledge, thought placing files in /etc/init.d equivalent placing entries in hlms\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run registry location in windows.

tried "cat /var/log/messages|grep mpd" , "cat /var/log/boot.log|grep mpd", , both returned nothing.

can here me out solving problem?

you try *easy* way, adding command startup applications in system>preferences>startup applications (if remember correctly).
note not start daemon on boot, rater whenever start session user, i.e. when log in.
