Including different datasets from a file?

i have (for sake of argument) 2 illustrator files. 1 contains vector drawings multiple layers. i'd use 2 "versions" of file i'm using variables , datasets toggle layers , change textfields. now, in other file, i'd link (place) these 2 versions. when placing external files can choose between several options, example artboard you'd include file, can't find option choosing dataset (from included file) i'd use?!? seems using 1 "active" while saving file.

 

so, possible include illustrator file particular dataset , same file once more different dataset? , if so, how? seems bit redundant duplicate original file (with 2 datasets) can included in one... every change in layer example have save file twice? (or more if had more datasets)

yupp. data sets evaluated inside document referencing them. short of updating file embedded script or building variables in main doc, see no realistic way handle easily. sounds more case indesign in first place...
