Thread: Authentication Attempt was Unsuccessful...

i've searched far , wide , can't seem find answer problem. following error message whenever try install app using "ubuntu software center." ironically though, can install same app via aptitude or apt-get without issue.

the glitchy-ness of due error appearing , disappearing 8-10 times in blink of eye. barely able screenshot it, lol.

possible cause?
once trying chown phpmyadmin folder on root purely testing purposes , may have accidentally entered stupid command, realizing after 5 seconds of running when wondered why running long. recall, in phpmyadmin folder in terminal , ran (if memory serves) following command thinking apply current directory. know, know...
<-- noob

ooopsy command:
sudo chown -r matthew /
rofl!! (doh, how revert permissions defaults? can done?)

appreciate can get. has been quite booger , nuisance deal with.

edit: turns out, appears issue when attempting perform sort of action requiring root authentication. happened when trying "unlock" gdmsetup in dialog. when running update manager.

edit: ok, found solution, lol. one-hour reinstall , reconfig
also, found interesting link. apparently guy wrote ruby script recursively log chown & chmod info in filesystem , restore them all. if tries this, i'd know how turns out

cheers,
~matthew
