this great forum me. absolute beginner in linux world. have worked several unix variants, vms, several ibm os's , of course, dos , windows. i'm trying venture out bit...

question. 1 of ubuntu variants "lighter" another? want install on dell desktop w/ p4 processor , 640mb. need system web browser, e-mail client , simple word processing app.

have downloaded ubuntu 11.04 , have installed. gave me message video capabilities , launched "classic" ui. xubuntu or kubuntu lighter , better fit???

i have dell w/p4 hyper-threading. suggest using 10.04 lts, though 11.04 runs fine on it, unity too. have enabled hyper-threading? mine came disabled in bios default. gpu using?
