Category List Menu mixes all articles - including from sub.. - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i have menu articles category list. when click on menu, not articles in specified category, of articles in subcategories of category. list makes no distinction articles being in subcategories.

this happens when make menu articles category blog, well.

can me understand how have articles in category show up? want users have drill down subcategory if want - don;t want them mixed when @ higher level!
i've tried hiding , showing subcategories in places can find, , seems display subcategories @ bottom of list or not.

article manager options/category/subcategory levels = none
menu manager(edit menu item)/category options/subcategory levels = none

i want menu item link category , display list of subcategories, each subcategory link list of articles within it.

currently menu item links list of articles within whole category , subcategories list of subcategories below.
