i know ubuntu hardly gaming tuned os, installed flight gear , little disappointed.
have dell inspiron mini 1010 {
1gb ram @ 533mhz
1.60ghz cpu
5400rpm disk drive buffered 54mbps , cached 500mbps
intel® integrated graphics media accelerator 500 graphics card @ 512mb ram
}
have ubuntu 10.10 lts, whatever version of gnome comes 10.10 release
when run flight gear loads fine, when game starts horrified find refreshes frame every second - 1 fps! whats more, input control, example pageup increase throttle, nothing happens 4 seconds, , jumps notch. me play game success have controlling plane 5 seconds in advance (fps + delay input.) thats not on. when had windows partition fine playing more complex games orbiter (sfs), not mention flight gear windows.
there accelerators might help?
doing wrong?
there desktop environments better suited this?
from flightgear's own site:
flight gear typical opengl application in terms of it's performance , hardware requirements. requires reasonable hardware accelerated 3d card opengl drivers achieve smooth frame rates. software rendering typically yields frame rates in neighborhood of several seconds per frame.
