Thread: Stopping the X server

to try windows manager, have open new display without windows manager. problem when run

code:

startx -- :1

kde runs automatically on it.

how can open graphic session without window manager?

(edit) actually, did it. not sure how, thought... i'd know how more reliably

i installed awesome wm , wondered same thing... choose alternative wm, must @ time of login... click on username, @ bottom of screen, see drop-down allows select window manager execute upon login... choose 1 want, enter password , continue...

way, (i'm still new @ myself), ui refers "session" , "awesome.desktop" config file located under /usr/share/xsessions...
