what gnome / kde ?
m running ubuntu 11.04 , how check if have of these?
while installing software asked me , gnome or kde ?

what's unity ? read in " things after installing ubuntu 11.04" , install unity great. worst thing linux has done . controversial ? :s

these desktop environments (des). kde (kubuntu) greediest bells , whistles, gnome next (ubuntu 11.xx), xfce (xubuntu).

there nothing stopping running whatever de like. previous 3 running on ubuntu anyhow. there plenty of other des; fluxbox, openbox, icewm, etc ... list goes on ...

ps: know nothing how greedy unity i've not used i've read, not very. de. can install des synaptic package manager, logout , choose new de sessions tab, log in , out of gnome , whatever have chosen. permutations many. desktop ubuntu studio xfce , ubuntu-desktop installed, using artwork ubuntu satanic , edubuntu!
