Thread: eSata and Port Multiplier

i trying esata pci-e card working under linux multi-drive enclosure uses port multiplier.

have tried 4 different esata cards, 2 addonics, cheap chinese no-name card, , cardbus card in laptop. 1 pci-e, 1 pci-x, 1 pci, , 1 cardbus.
have tried several different esata enclosures, 1 byte-cc, 1 thermaltake, , cheap chinese no-name brand.
have tried in dell optiplex 745, dell precision t3400, hp z200 workstation, , dell inspiron 8600 laptop using esata cardbus card.

esata hba cards using either silicon image 3124 or sillicon image 3132 chips. cannot tell port multiplier chips in enclosures.

*all* of these combinations work under windows xp , windows 7.
*none* of these combinations work under ubuntu, or of 5 or 6 different distros have tried.

best 'fdisk -l' shows first drive, not second.

have searched on google , web information on this, information terribly out of date. can please tell me exact brand name of pci-e esata card known have port multiplier work under ubuntu. don't believe manufacturer says on newegg.
