Thread: using USB devices from a guest OS in VirtualBox

after installing latest version of virtualbox (4.0.8) , extension pack goes discovered i'm able use usb devices guest system.
tested standard usb flash , works charm. here comes issue.
have old microchip clone programmer , debugger (clone of icd2) , decided should give shot. configured filter guest system , plugged in. when execute lsusb guest shows correct reading, programmer isn't recognized application should using it.
i'm curious if have tried usb device different mass storage device type usb sticks.
i've read on virtualbox's site sharing of usb ports between host , guest system isn't direct. goes through abstraction layer. i'm thinking might possible not every type of usb device supported.
or maybe linux setup programmer wrong. i'm still new microchip tools running in linux. far i've used them on windows.

i guess thread has died.
anyway. record, wasn't able start different usb mass storage device. guess limitation of abstraction layer virtualbox builds.
i'll check out again newest versions...
