Thread: Need help with install - taking hours

hi there,

trying install ubuntu first time, please excuse me if sounds naive.

have windows7 on ssd , second hdd same ntfs. have selected hdd installation ubuntu, , asked create 250mb partition on second drive.

installing latest desktop version of ubuntu, 32-bit. have been waiting several hours installation occur, has allowed me open web browser in background, system still operating (i typing within web browser). line in install window says:

>> creating ext4 file system / in partition #5 of scsi2 (0,0,0) (sdb) ...

last statement in console says:

>> ubuntu aptdaemon: info: initializing deamon
>> ubuntu aptdaemon: info: quitting due inactivity
>> ubuntu aptdaemon: info: shutdown requested
>> ubuntu cron[10804]: (root) cmd ( cd / && run-parts - - report tc/cron.hourly)

common sense tells me has gone wrong, , don't know if should restart system if it's in progress of doing drives.

in log, has following error:

>> error: count not find path /mnt/migrationassestant/windows/system32/config/software
>> error: count not find path /mnt/migrationassestant/winnt/system32/config/software
>> fatal: not find software registry hive @ /mnt/migrationassistant/winnt/system32/config/software
>> ubuntu ntfs-3g[9553]: unmounting /dev/sdal (system reserved)
>> ubuntu ubiquity[3104]: migration-assistant: filtering out windows 7 loader) (/dev/sdal) has no users
>> ubuntu ubiquity[3104]: debconffilter_done: ubi-migrationassistant (current: ubi-migrationassistant)
>> ubuntu ubiquity[3104]: step_before = stepuserinfo
>> ubuntu cron[9815]: (root) cmd ( cd / && run-parts - - report tc/cron.hourly)

can please give me advice, or show me how debug further? or should wait longer?

in advance.

jeff
