Thread: Error when updating?

i error when trying run update manager or synaptic - same thing ubuntu tweak well.... tried update via terminal

code:

sudo apt-get update

and got following error:

reading package lists... error!  e: encountered section no package: header  e: problem mergelist /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_binary-amd64_packages  e: package lists or status file not parsed or opened.

running 11.04 x64, been exclusively ubuntu since 8.04 , never encountered before.

code:

sudo rm -r /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf

code:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
