dear all,
after seemingly normal shutdown, lap-top not launch ubuntu. end initramfs prompt. i've been using ubuntu happily (10.04) few months now.
windows part of laptop still boots fine.
i've tried booting installation cd starts off saying "unable handle kernel paging request @ o1fc1000" , proceeds chunter lot, ends hanging. lots of hacker type text, but no action. i've left hanging half day no avail.
having done searching on forum i've tried few things, no joy. includes going change root in grub menu each , every 1 (six) of possible (hd0,6). allows me this, when go loopback part says either file not found or unknown filesystem...
i've tried doing chkdsk through windows, ubuntu partition doesn't seem have letter assigned it, can't change drive letter enable chkdsk (if viable thing do).
i'm go away day, response may forthcoming may delayed, i'm becoming desperate now...
may have guessed, not @ used under bonnet aspects of computers, though not scared try. it's need explain start typing, if far.
in anticipation...
best
jim
