Thread: Ubuntu server 10.04 on RAID1/LVM

hi all,

planning use following configuration on 2 2tb disks (/dev/sda , /dev/sdb):

• /dev/sda1 , /dev/sdb1 /dev/md0 (raid1)
• /dev/sda2 , /dev/sdb2 /dev/md1 (raid1)
• /dev/sda3 , /dev/sdb3 /dev/md2 (raid1)

/dev/md0 used swap, /dev/md1 used mount /boot. on /dev/md2 there lvm 1 vg , 4 logical volumes, along /home , /.

setup of ubuntu server 10.04 ran smoothly until had install grub. failed, noting "unable execute grub-install /dev/sda. fatal error.". tried install grub on /dev/sda , /dev/sdb.

after google'ing, people told me not install grub on /dev/sda , /dev/sdb, install grub on raid partition. tried /dev/md1, /dev/md2 , /dev/mapper/vg-root (where / should mounted), gave me same error.

option had finish installation without installing boot loader. i'm not able boot server... appreciated!

there no reasons can think of why should not able install grub, per se.
if boot cd , run bootinfoscript , post results here (insode code tags, use #) can see what's going on: http://sourceforge.net/projects/bootinfoscript/
