background: have asus netbook running (more or less) fresh install of 10.04, formerly (pre)installed winxp, @ time computer/network name 'calvin-aegis'. have formatted, wiped, , reinstalled more once since then, , (as far can remember) have never typed previous name on linux installation. (i may mistaken -- perhaps reused once on previous ubuntu install, still, whole drive has been shredded since then).
problem: happened run netstat earlier today, , noticed 'calvin-aegis' shows under 'local address'!
/etc/hosts, /etc/hostname, , running 'hostname' without args return correct hostname, 'john'.
... wha?
'local address' supposed show hostname, right?
well, netstat getting hostname, then? not anywhere on disk?
importantly, how might change it?
if has advice, speculation, or corrections, i'd appreciate it. i've been regular linux user ~6 months, perhaps i'm fundamentally misunderstanding something, here.
